A break in transmission

Despite the title of this blog, and the usual tone, there are some human activities that do lift my spirits.

May I recommend to those of you able to take advantage:
The South Bank show with Kevin Spacey, about what he is doing at the Old Vic.
(No, the theatre, not me, you dull twat)
Cranford with Eileen Atkins. Orgasmically good.
Big Fat Quiz of the Year.
The Karelia Suite by Sibelius.
The books of James Lee Burke.
Mississippi John Hurt.

(That's enough cheerful things, Ed.)

Normal bile pouring will resume shortly.

I'll recommend this list to Betty.

Betty sent it to me - I had to removed the sickly ones.

I saw Kev's prancing classes at the Old Vic and was reminded of the Victoria Wood sketch about the experimental theatre company - "Ok, get into character! You're Einstein, you're Henry Kissinger and you're a bottle of milk - let's go!"
Still, nice to know you're alive! You post about as often as Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands these days.

My telly's broken now.

ooo
WV: ulhuism
that sounds like a word you might use, what can it mean??

Pither. Try to see the good in people sometimes, please. Beattie, like myself, finds her time taken up with the European Commission for the Eradication of Cynicism. We are not making much progress.
Ziggi. It is the belief in salvation by the application of marmite to the buttocks.

I am delighted to say that I have never watched any of these things.

And that, Dave, is probably the ultimate endorsement.

I like to think so.

I was with a couple of 'literature types' recently who were moaning about Cranford.
I could have done with you on my side to say something more inspiring than "I thought it were dead good"

Vicus Scurra said...

I think I would have said "it were better than the fucking book". I doubt whether that would have impressed.

You can stick Sibelius right up your fucking arse for a start, and fucking Cranford, what the fuck is that? a load of poxy twats dressing up like tossers.
But nice to see your soft, sensitive side coming through at last!

Eileen Atkins was superb, just a shame the bloody book made her die early.

The big fat quiz thing was quite entertaining too and should have won over a few more Russell Brand unbelievers.

You see Tom, how wrong you were. Geoff, you tell him. The bloody hippy philistine.

I only saw one Cranford and Eileen Atkins was dead by then. My Dad and her went to school together although I doubt she'd remember him now.

Vicus Scurra said...

Just for clarification. Richard meant that Eileen Atkin's character was dead, rather than the actress. He was not, I assume, trying to draw us into a metaphysical discussion about her post mortem consciousness.

missed the end of cranford but I did enjoy the big fat quiz of the year more than I should have done...

I don't know what any of the other things are. I must be some kind of uncultured arsehole. it's a hard life.

I know I like Sibelius, but since one of the drugs I'm currently on has a side effect of both short and long term memory loss (amongst other side effects which I shan't either bore you with or share the gory details of with you) I can't remember why

She's back! She's back! It's the same one!

And she doesn't know who she is!

James "The Day The Universe Changed and Connections" Burke?
Bloody rights everyone should read them.

I, Like The View said...

James Burke. . . wasn't he one of the original presenters of Tomorrow's World

or am I thinking of some other berk?

anyhow, I'm standing patiently in line for the next outpouring of bile

(my umberella is open, to avoid a drenching)

Excuse me for the temporary interruption of ILTV's talking to herself.
